Hi SoccerHelp,

I am coaching a U14 boys soccer team for the first time and I am a premium member. I have good soccer coaching experience at younger levels. In looking over premium, I have become overwhelmed by the vast amount of information. I need assistance on where to start. We need a complete overhaul of the mind set and attitudes of the boys. I want to start preseason workouts soon .

  1. To motivate your players and change their mindset and attitudes, read How to Develop a Soccer Motivation Plan on SoccerHelp at http://www.soccerhelp.com/Motivational-Plan-Players-Students.shtml (List, Incentivize, Praise, Reward = LIPR).

  2. The second thing you should do is think about the Style of Play that will work best for your soccer team - can you Push Up on attack or should you Defend Deep? Also, the best soccer formation. Those 2 things will depend on how many slow and unskilled players you have.     If you play a 11v11 soccer formation, unless you have a great select team, I favor a formation that has more depth. such as a 3-2-3-2 soccer formation.

  3. Play the soccer Practice Games at practice and have efficient, effective practices. Our games involve competition and teach players to play fast while under pressure. Try:

    (Control dribbling, speed dribbling, to look up while dribbling, turning, peripheral vision, instinctive reactions, getting used to traffic and shielding the ball in traffic, looking for "Open Space", acceleration into open space, how to "Breakaway", "Field Vision", to naturally dribble with both feet, U-8 & up)

    (Passing while running, aggressive receiving, speed dribbling, turning, "First Touch", one-touch control into open space, U-8 and older)

    (Winning the ball & strength on the ball, shoulder tackle, shielding, U-8 & up)

    (Win the 50/50 Ball, Attacking & Defending, U-8 & up)

  4. I don't know of a better way to change attitudes that to use a positive reinforcement incentive program. Our soccer patches work great for that. There are over 300 Testimonials for our soccer patches.
